Battlefield Open Beta to kick-start on October 1st 2013

The multiplayer beta for the hotly anticipated Battlefield 4 has been given an October 1st date for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.This is almost a month ahead of the shooter sequel’s October 29th launch date. An EA blog post by executive Peter Moore breaks the news, and although it only refers to it as “Open Beta” and doesn’t clarify, it is our understanding that access will be limited to BF4 pre-order customers, and those that pre-ordered Medal of Honor: Warfighter or purchased Battlefield 3: Premium.

The blog post also reminds players of EA’s $10 game upgrade promotion for those moving from the current generation console platforms to the next:

We want to make it simple to start playing on current-generation consoles, and then transition to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 later. Here’s a couple of easy ways how:

  • Playing early on the Xbox 360 or PS3 means you will be able to learn maps, unlock items, and build stats in Battlefield 4; or create your Ultimate Teams and more in FIFA 14 and Madden NFL 25. You can then seamlessly carry over a lot of cool content from the current gen game to a new Xbox One or PS4 version to get a jump on the competition.
  • Offers from many of our retail partners will help you buy Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 or Madden NFL 25 on the Xbox 360 or PS3, and then upgrade to an Xbox One or PS4 version for as little as $10.

Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, and Madden NFL 25 will all support the initiative, and copies of the games purchased from said retail partners are said to contain the $10 upgrade offer in the form of a redeemable serial key.

Have your say!
