GTA Online might incorporate microtransactions

Rumours by some Reddit users suggests that Grand Theft Auto Online may incorporate microtransactions.

Opening the store section of Grand Theft Auto 5 in the pause menu reportedly results in the console requesting an XML file hosted on Rockstar’s site, which makes mention of a number of in-game “cash cards” available in denominations ranging from $100,000 to $1,250,000.

These are accompanied by images (converted from DDS format) and the following description: Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.

GTA Online will be accessible via GTA 5 when the multiplayer offering launches on October 1. There was no immediate comment from Rockstar on this issue, though it dismissed reports that GTA Online’s player count has been doubled from the previously confirmed 16 to 32.
