Review: Samsung Tabpro S

In recent times, a handful of convertibles have made it to the market and they offer a very unique and futuristic experience. A device that can function as a laptop as well a tablet is a fascinating. The tech giant Samsung has also stepped into the arena with its Tabpro S.

Unlike its previous ventures, Samsung has paid attention to design in the Tabpro S. Though it is not as beautiful as the Apple iPad pro, Samsung’s convertible device is not an ugly looking piece of machinery. Elegant metal frame houses the gorilla glass featured front and rubberized rear. It slightly looks like S7 in the form of a tablet.

A slight issue in the Tabpro S is the lack of portrait viewing. However, most of the convertibles in the market support landscape viewing only with the exception of Apple iPad pro.

A very big appealing factor for Samsung’s Tabpro S is the inclusion of a keyboard in the bundle. Portability is not a problem for the device as it is extremely sleek. However, it fails to impress when it comes to connectivity options. A single USB-C charging port is all you get with the Tabpro S.

No extra USB ports, SD card slots or micro display slots are provided in the device. This seriously limits the functionality of the device. The only alternative here is to spend some extra bucks and get a multi-port adapter. The keyboard is not the best out there, but is a seriously good one. The trackpad also serves the purpose nicely. The display of the device is phenomenal.

The 12 inch 2 Super AMOLED display is simply beautiful. The viewing angles are great, brightness is adjustable for every setting, colours are highly detailed and watching videos is an absolute delight. Overall, the Tabpro S features a solid design.

At the offered price, the performance is not quite up to the mark. The dual core Intel core M3 processor backed up with 4 GB of RAM is a good combination for ensuring power efficiency, but not a stellar combo to achieve satisfactory performance.

Also, 4 GB of RAM is a little less and at this price range, at least 8 GB should have been provided. Day to day tasks like web browsing and watching videos run just fine, but performance heavy tasks like 3D modelling and slightly demanding games struggle to operate. The Windows 10 covers up basic functionality quite nicely and the windows store offers a huge gallery of applications to choose from.

Samsung has kept the count of useless applications on the device very low. The interface provides a seamless experience that covers most of one’s daily needs. The support for Microsoft’s own apps like Office 365 is also a plus point.

The cameras loaded on the device are nothing exceptional, but provide a decent video calling experience. The 5 megapixel rear shooter also captures decent images. Expectations need to be the bare minimum though. In terms of sound quality, the device does not completely disappoint, but the maximum volume offered is way too less.

When it comes to the battery life, the device doesn’t go beyond 6 or 7 hours. The Tabpro S is not perfect in any way, but is a futuristic device that boasts superb functionality.
