Review: XTOUCH A3

XTOUCH as a brand has been doing quite well in the Middle East and African markets. The company is known for bring out value-based smartphones and gadgets to the market. We recently received the company’s new A3 smartphone bundled along with the company’s very own VFit smartband into a beautiful gift pack.

The smartphone is individually priced at AED 399, though the company also throws in the VFit smartband for AED 599. The XTOUCH A3 smartphone is a 4G LTE smartphone that comes packed with a fingerprint sensor. There are three colours to choose from – champagne gold, rose gold and space grey.

Inside the box, you get the phone, a cover-case, a screen protector and a pair of earphones. You also get a SIM removal tool, wall adapter, microUSB cable and a few instruction booklets. The overall look and feel of the XTOUCH A3 is quite good for the price tag it is available at. The overall construction of the device is quite good and so is the design and finish.

On the front, the XTOUCH A3 comes with a 5-inch HD display and support for dual SIM slots. On the top of the display, you will find a 5-megapixel front camera for all your selfie needs. Immediately under the display at the bottom, you also get three capacitive touch buttons – for back, home and options – instead of the onscreen buttons you see on most devices on the market.

At the rear of the phone, you get a 13-megapixel snapper with an LED flash module placed right next to it. Just below it you will also find the fingerprint sensor we spoke about above. The fingerprint sensor not only allows you to unlock the device bit to also capture selfies by using it as a shutter button.

The fingerprint sensor also supports Quick Start Apps – this means, you can use it to open applications of your choice with each finger, once you program it to do so. The XTOUCH A3 also comes with Smart Gesture Control feature, which lets you open up apps such as gallery, clock, music, and so on, by sliding left, right, up or down on the screen. What’s more, you can also draw different letters on the lock screen in order to open up specific applications.

The XTOUCH A3 is powered by a MediaTek quad-core MT6735P processor. Other specs include 1GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage. The built-in space can be further extended to up to 128GB using a microSD card. In terms of camera quality, the 13-megapixel camera at the back can take good pictures under good lighting conditions.

The XTOUCH A3 is really a good entry-level phone available at a very good price point. It will appeal to those looking for an able second phone to carry around.
