Review: Sony MDR-1000X

EditorsChoiceThe Sony MDR-1000X is a pair of the company’s flagship wireless headphones that also offers an awesome noise cancelling feature. The 1000X have the traditional Sony laidback design. The headphones are entirely painted in black, giving them a very stealthy look, which is great if you don’t want them to attract a lot of attention when you are wearing them outdoors.

The earcups and headband are covered in soft synthetic leather that gives them a premium feel. The earcups also swivel and fold, making them easy to carry. Everything feels premium and built to last.

The MDR-1000X noise cancelling headphones also come with Sony’s ‘Personal NC Optimiser’ function. The headphones also offer a ‘Quick Attention’ mode that lets you place the palm of your hand to the outside of the headphone ear cup to have a conversation with someone, without taking the headset off.

These are also the first headphones with the DSEE HX built-in, that upscales compressed music from any source to near High-Resolution Audio sound quality, even in wireless mode. The overall build quality and design of the headphones is top notch.

The headphones come in a sturdy pouch and accompanies accessories such as an airplane adapter and a removable audio cable. On to noise-canceling front, the Sony MDR-1000X was able to outperform the king of all noise-canceling headphones – the Bose QC35.

In terms of sound quality, the MDR-1000X turned out to be a top-notch Bluetooth headphone. We were quite surprised with the brilliant audio quality it offered. If you are on the market for a noise-cancelling headphone, you now have another very good option with the Sony MDR-1000X. The headphones win the Review Central Editors’ Choice award for top notch audio and noise-cancelling performance.
